Inform the crew
Each sign is engineered for maximum clarity and durability, even in challenging weather conditions. Whether mounted at ground level or elevated for long-range visibility, they serve a critical role in preventing runway incursions and navigational errors.
For instance, a temporary service road crossing a taxiway could pose a risk due to the proximity between aircraft and vehicles, especially if personnel are unfamiliar with aviation safety. In such cases, a temporary information sign reading "CONSTRUCTION AHEAD" should be installed, optionally followed by an "END CONSTRUCTION" sign to indicate the zone's end.
Existing concept adapted to the demand
The temporary information signage was developed as part of research carried out by the Airport Construction Advisory Council of the FAA and Paris-CDG. The signs comply with ICAO standards for information signs (Annex 14 Vol. I §5.4.3), except for the background color, which uses safety orange.
By providing clear, immediate, and unmistakable warnings, these signs ensure that pilots can quickly adapt to changes in the airfield layout—minimizing risk and keeping airport operations safe and efficient during construction phases.
